Priced at €12.50 and shipping in August, the transparent polycarbonate device eliminates the parallax mistakes that still plague traditional printed scales, while adding snap-in accessories that convert it into a compass, depth gauge, and slope meter within seconds.

At first glance the Vertex-X looks familiar: a 180 mm half-circle with a 0.5 mm center hole. The difference lies in a 0.05 mm thin layer of photopolymer embedded between two optically clear sheets. When ambient light passes through, total-internal-reflection inking creates razor-sharp 0.1° lines that appear to float 1 mm above the paper, ensuring the user’s eye, the scale, and the measured angle lie on the exact same optical plane. “Students no longer tilt the page or squint at offset markings,” explained product lead Dr. Ingrid Bauer, demonstrating how the same line remains crisp from viewing angles up to 35°.

Durability meets sustainability. The polycarbonate shell resists drops from 1.5 m and withstands solvents used in technical drawing. GeoAngle molds the shell from 70 % post-industrial scrap and prints the scale with UV-curable ink free of heavy metals; the entire unit is recyclable through the company’s take-back scheme. A low-profile thumb-wheel on the base rotates a concealed tungsten-carbide needle, instantly converting the protractor into a 150 mm radius compass without extra tools.
